There's no shortage of 35-foot express cruisers on the market. So why would Sea Ray take a perennial favorite - a model that just helped the company earn yet another National Marine Manufacturers Association Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) Award in its respective category - and replace it with a brand-new boat? Because being the best means getting better every year.
The Sundancer line helped create the "express cruiser" class some 30 years ago, and the fresh-faced 330 once again proves that Sea Ray is always pushing into new and rewarding territory. Note the four oversized hull windows, large deck hatch and two skylights, all of which contribute to enhanced interior visibility and ambient light. Look at the sexy plunging sheer line and contoured fiberglass sport spoiler. Also standard is an extended swim platform and aft-facing foldaway "deployable seat." That's a clever design. And there's still room for fenders and gear in the transom wall, as well as storage under every seat and in side panels.
Like each of its pioneering siblings, this beautiful blend of form and function features a gracious cockpit that's built for comfort. There's a wraparound settee that nearly encircles the deck, plus a wet bar with solid-surface countertop, stainless-steel sink, storage, and optional refrigerator or icemaker. Two additional options here that turn the 330 into a prime-time entertainment platform are a built-in stainless-steel barbecue grill and 15" flatscreen TV with dedicated storage.
The control station is both techy and luxe. It has an adjustable helm bench with two flip-up bolsters, fronted by a burlwood-accented dash with SmartCraft¿ diagnostics and room for every electronics upgrade in the book. Digital throttle and shifts operate the twin 320-hp MerCruiser® Bravo III sterndrives, or you can opt for diesel sterndrives - even inboard V-drive propulsion. An enormous electrically actuated hatch makes checking the engine room push-button easy. The stainless-steel-rimmed walk-through windshield gives convenient access forward.
When it's time to move indoors, the 26" flatscreen TV with remote DVD player and the premium Clarion® stereo system, six-CD changer and MP3 port will keep the party hopping. Guests can congregate in two "conversation areas," the salon dinette with stretched sofa or the mid-stateroom with L-shaped lounge. Both of these spaces serve double duty: the dinette converts into two chairs with a cocktail table or into a bed; the mid-stateroom seating becomes a double berth.
On the port side, cherry mica cabinets, with truly cruise-worthy storage capacity, anchor the galley. A lengthy solid-surface countertop is buffet-line ready. Appliances include a microwave/coffeemaker, recessed two-burner stove, and both a standard refrigerator and a refrigerator drawer. The enclosed head/shower compartment boasts simulated teak flooring, a full-length mirror and a VacuFlush® system.
To the owner goes the spoils, and in this case that means an especially sweet master bed. The island double has an electrically adjustable extension and Posturpedic® backrest with Visco elastic foam mattress. A curtain lends privacy, and there's a hanging locker and cabinet with shelves for your storage needs.
All things considered, it's exactly what you would expect from a boat - and a boat company - that always looks beyond the horizon. That's the 330 Sundancer. That's Sea Ray.
