Why Boat Shows
Whether you’re buying, browsing or learning, a boat show is a great place to start. Boat shows give you a chance to see what’s new and keep current on the latest trends.
Of, course, it’s great fun to see the latest and greatest and to imagine which luxury cruiser you’ll climb aboard when your ship finally does come in…but there are plenty of practical reasons to buy a ticket as well.
Boat shows are great places to shop and compare.
Few, if any, dealerships can offer the breadth of assortment and hands-on shopping experience of even the smallest boat show. You’ll see many boat types and can easily compare cost, size, features and warranties of the models that interest you most. And, with so many dealers under one roof, vying for your business, the competitive atmosphere can really benefit your bottom line.
If you’re new to boating there’s really no better place to educate yourself on the many options available so you can make a smart decision when you do buy.
Boat shows are great places to learn.
While the bulk of exhibitors at any boat show are manufacturers and dealers who are there to sell their wares, many non-profit and volunteer boating organizations also exhibit. From environmental to law enforcement to boating safety, these groups offer valuable information to both new and experienced boaters. Show producers themselves often sponsor seminars and hands-on demonstrations on topics ranging from fishing to navigation. It’s a great way to educate yourself on the many aspects of boating—and it’s all included in the cost of your ticket.
Boat shows are fun for the whole family.
Boating is a great family activity—and boat shows are exciting, family-oriented events that include plenty of fun for youngsters. Kids love exploring the new boats with their parents— climbing aboard, taking a seat at the helm and pretending to be captain of a great ship. Most shows also include kid-friendly exhibits such as trout fishing and feature kids’ play areas with games, contests and more to entertain the tadpole set.

North American In-Water Boat Show September 16-20, 2009 Cedar Point SANDUSKY, Ohio
Judging by watercraft registration figures, the Ohio counties of Erie, Ottawa
and Huron along the southern shore of Lake Erie contain some of the most densely-populated boating communities in the country.
It is only fitting that the area will host the largest in-water boat show on the Great Lakes for the 37th consecutive year when the North American In-Water Boat Show presented by Toyota Trucks drops anchor at Cedar Point Amusement Park Sept. 16-20.
Now an end-of-the-summer boating tradition, the event got its start in 1973 after organizers were inspired by an in-water show in Annapolis, Md.
That first year, nearly 5,000 visitors streamed in from across the region.
Originally configured to display only 91 boats and 16 accessory booths, its lines of docks are now interconnected throughout, so visitors can walk out onto the water, get a drink at the Party Barge, look at all the boats and use the floating restrooms before returning to land.
“The location is a great asset, and we’ve grown with Cedar Point,” said Show Manager Ken Alvey. “A lot of people come for the weekend and visit both the show and the amusement park.
There’s more than enough to do when you include all the wineries, water parks, golf courses and nearby islands.” Visitors will have the opportunity to test drive certain models on the Demo Dock and shop for bargains in the Boats Under $15,000 and Boats $15,000-25,000 pavilions.
On the water, it will definitely be a buyer’s show, as boats are more affordable now than in recent history. WKFM will host a Buffalo Wild Wings wing eating contest on Saturday, and the Erie County Humane Society will be holding an Adapt-a-Pet drive during the week (Wednesday through Friday). Guests 12 and younger will receive free admission.
Show hours are noon to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday; 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday; and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
