EPA Extends E15 Comment Period

On May 15, the EPA extended the comment period on a petition submitted by Growth Energy, a pro-ethanol lobby, requesting a waiver to allow ethanol gasoline blends of up to 15 percent (E15) to be introduced into commerce. The original public comment period was slated to end on May 21, 2009 but will now be extended to July 20, 2009.

Houston Summer Boat Show June 17 – 21, 2009

HOUSTON, TX. . . The 22nd annual Houston Summer Boat Show, showcasing just about anything that floats on the water, will open its doors to the public June 17-21 at Houston's Reliant Center.

The five-day show, which is expected to attract more than 30,000 boating enthusiasts, will present more than 200 exhibits with boats of all makes and models for fishing, skiing/wakeboarding and pleasure cruising.
That's in addition to exhibits filled with accessories, fishing gear, clothing, art and more. And as always, most of the exhibiting dealers will offer special Summer Show discounts.

Show hours for the 2009 Houston Summer Boat Show are Wednesday thru Friday, June 17 - 19 from 1 pm - 9 pm, Saturday, June 20 from 10 am - 9 pm and Sunday, June 21 from noon - 6 pm.

Admission to the 2009 Houston Summer Boat Show is $8 for adults and $4 for children under 12. Tickets can be purchased at the Reliant Center ticket office.

SPRING INTO BOATING AT THE CATAWBA ISLAND BOAT SHOW May 1 – 3, 2009 Port Clinton, Ohio

Ken Alvey, president of the Lake Erie Marine Trades Association,
cannot think of a better location than the Catawba Island Club in Port Clinton, Ohio, for a spring boat show.

“The location is perfect,” he said while drawing up plans for the fifth annual Catawba Island

Boat Show that will be held May 1-3. “The golf course, restaurant, tennis courts and other amenities are all located right on the water, making it easy for us to come in and put on a boat show with fun attractions.”

There will be no charges for admission or parking, features Alvey hopes will appeal to the public in the current economic downturn. At no cost, visitors will be able to board and even test drive a broad selection of power and sail boats that will be displayed in the water and on land.

Additionally, preparations are being made to host some golf and wine-themed activities.
The event serves the Lake Erie islands region that has one of the highest numbers of boats per capita and greatest densities of boats per acre of water in the entire Great Lakes Basin.

Boating household expenditures in nearby counties are eight to ten times greater than the state average. “Boating is big here,” said Alvey. “We look at this as kind of a kick-off party for the 2009 boating season.”

The boats will be docked in the Catawba Island Club Marina slips, allowing for easy access to both the club and the open water.
