THE POSITION:
Travelers’ Boat and Yacht claims leadership has recently made the decision to centralize a team of talented, motivated and technical claims professionals within its

SUMMARY:
These positions require an intimate technical knowledge of boat and yacht construction and/or a working knowledge of the claim handling process. Marine Surveyor certification such as Society of Accredited Marine Surveyors (SAMSŪ) or National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMS) is a plus. Additional accreditations in fiberglass, diesel, outboard and outdrive repairs also a plus. These positions also require the ability to provide world-class customer service to our valued agents and customers. These positions will play an active role in helping define and implement strategies, workflows and best practices in the handling of boat and yacht claims.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
-Handle 1st party and 3rd party Boat/Yacht claims of low to moderate severity and complexity as assigned.
-Handle 1st party and 3rd party Boat/Yacht claims of high complexity and severity.
-Investigate and evaluate all relevant facts to determine coverage, damages and liability of first-party claims.
-Establish timely and accurate claim and expense reserves.
-Negotiate and convey claim settlements within authority limits.
-Write denial letters, Reservation of Rights and other complex correspondence.
-Control damages through proper usage of cost containment tools.
-Meet all quality standards and expectations per Best Practices.
-Maintain an effective diary system and document claim file activities in accordance with established procedures.
-Manage file inventory to ensure timely resolution of cases.
-Handle files in compliance with state regulations, where applicable.
-Provide excellent customer service to meet the needs of the insured, agent and all other internal and external customers.
-Identify and refer claims with MCU exposure to the supervisor.
-Recognize when to refer claims to Special Investigations Unit and/or Subrogation Unit.
-Perform administrative functions such as time-off reporting, timesheets, etc. as require ed.
-Be available to work alternate shifts to support our agents and customers in the west.
-Occasional Catastrophe Duty, including other offices and states may be required
-Perform any other duties as required.


EDUCATION/COURSE OF STUDY:
College degree and/or equivalent in business discipline.
Prior Insurance claim handling experience.
Technical background in boat/yacht industry such as marine surveying and/or boat repair (fiberglass and mechanical)

COMMUNICATION SKILLS:
Must display solid verbal and written communications skills.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
Hardware and software skills and abilities including computers and other similar electronic devices.
