6th Annual Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Show August 8-10, 2008

Welcome to the 6th Annual Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Show August 8-10, 2008

There is so much for the whole family to see and do at the Maine Boats, Homes & Harbors Show. In addition to all the great boats and booth exhibits, there's wonderful live music, a variety of events for children, displays of antique craft and engines, and the wild and zany World Championship Boatyard Dog® Trials (on Sunday). Also, midcoast Maine is full of creative organizations with great events going on all summer…those that take place during week of the show have come together as Coastal Creativity Week--concerts, art events, and more.

If you love the coast of Maine, you won't want to miss this show. Come see Maine's finest artists, architects, boatbuilders, furniture makers, craftsmen, designers, marine gear vendors, and musicians. There'll be a model yacht pond, live music, a children's area, exhibits, fine food, the running of the 6th Annual World Championship Boatyard Dog® Trials, and more! See sailboats, powerboats, lobster boats and yachts of all kinds. On The Shore
Tremolino and the Work of Lance Lee
A special area at the show will be dedicated to this international seaboard project, inspired by the lives and literature of Joseph Conrad and Kurt Hahn (of Outward Bound fame), which joins contemplative and experiential education, the East and West today, and the encouragement of community, family, and international exchange. Tremolino is a lateen-rigged cargo balancelle, of the type sailed by Conrad. Construction of the vessel Tremolino was begun in 2004 in Lance Lee's shop in Nobleboro as a collaboration among a group of about 10 builders, historians, riggers, preservationists and seamen. An Atlantic Challenge graduate, Brady Gow, has been chief among Lee's partners in the construction of the Mediterranean workboat, which is a copy of the vessel used by Conrad in the late 1800s to run guns between Marseilles and Catalonia for the Spanish royalist cause. Other vessels on display at the show will further celebrate Lance Lee's extensive and widely varied contributions to life along the Maine coast and beyond—as founder of The Apprenticeshop, Atlantic Challenge International, and now the Tremolino! Project

The Pike symbolizes the boatbuilding industry in Maine and the colorful fisheries industry. Recently donated to the Penobscot Marine Museum, the boat will ultimately become the centerpiece of a new Hall of Maine Built Boats on the museum’s Searsport campus.
